How to Water a New Lawn in Haryana's Summer
A new lawn needs careful watering in the first few weeks. In Haryana, the biggest mistake is either overwatering or watering at the wrong time of day.
The best approach is to keep the soil moist but not soggy. For the first 7 to 10 days, water lightly in the early morning and check whether the top layer is drying out. If the surface dries before the next watering cycle, your lawn likely needs more frequent but shorter watering sessions.
Once the grass starts rooting, move to deeper watering less often. This encourages roots to go downward instead of staying near the surface, which is especially important during strong summer heat.
A few simple rules work well:
- Water early morning, ideally before 9 am.
- Avoid watering in the afternoon when heat is highest.
- Don’t flood the lawn; consistent moisture is better than heavy soaking.
- Increase frequency during very hot weeks, but keep the total volume balanced.
If your lawn is in full sun most of the day, check soil moisture by hand before watering. Healthy growth comes from steady moisture and a strong root system, not from daily heavy soaking.
