How to Fix Brown Spots in Your Lawn

Jagdamba Nursery

Brown spots in a lawn usually happen for one of a few reasons: uneven watering, heat stress, poor soil conditions, or damaged grass roots.

Before you do anything drastic, inspect the area. If the grass is dry and brittle, the issue is often water stress. If it is soft and muddy, you may be overwatering or the soil may not be draining well. In strong summer sunlight, brown patches can also appear when the grass is not getting enough recovery time.

The best fix is to begin with small, consistent care. Water deeply during cooler parts of the day, avoid cutting too low, and check whether the soil drainage is compacted. In some cases, patching with fresh grass from the same variety is the fastest way to restore the area.

Healthy lawns usually recover best when they get steady moisture, proper mowing height, and enough time to root before the hottest part of the season.
